Details

The Spyderco Kapara is a fancy pocket knife made in cooperation with Australian knife maker Alistair Philips. The Kapara owes its name to the Australian red back spider, a poisonous black spider with a characterizing orange-red spot on its back. A great detail is as a result the red G10 backspacer which might remind you of the red spot on the back of the red back spider.

The design of the Kapara is directly derived from the Redback folder, a knife which was made by hand by Alistair Philips. Alistair Philips designed the Redback as a practical EDC knife for at the office, with as a main function the cutting and peeling different types of fruit and vegetables. Alistair Philips definitely thought about everything while designing the Kapara. The CPM S30V steel blade on the Kapara is thin to make cutting and peeling as easy as possible. In addition, the 9.1 cm blade is measured exactly to be long enough to cut most types of fruit in half.

The Spyderco Kapara is enhanced with a Compression lock: a type of reversed linerlock which is located at the spine of the handle. As such any left-over food won't get caught in between the locking mechanism during use. The handle of the Kapara is made from carbon fibre. It is nicely rounded to make sure the palm of your hard closes comfortably around the handle. The blade of the Kapara has been enhanced with a subtle finger groove for the more precise cutting tasks. With this finger groove you will have a lot of control over the knife which is practical when peeling fruit. The Kapara is enhanced with Spyderco's famous wireclip. A slim but solid pocket clip that combines well with the organic lines of the handle.
